A sport journalist, Nnamdi Obanya on Thursday said some senior Super Eagles’ players may have deliberately absconded from the friendly match against Catalunya for fear of an embarrassing defeat.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Obanya said apart from John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses whose English club, Chelsea FC, held back from participating in the match, “top players chickened out.”

The Super Eagles on Wednesday held hosts Catalunya to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly played at the Cornelia El-Prat Stadium in Barcelona.
